It was a long time ago now. Before the End came upon us. A child had been born inside of the Walls. A very special child. He came to be known as "the Child of Lenoria", which, I suppose was in some way possible. It was very likely that somewhere down her line it would happen. Lenoria had bred with Elysians as well. Her legacy traveled through her line, and eventually, this poor child was chosen.
His mother had conceived without a father. Many of the Lenoriaey had called her cursed. Wanted to throw her away from them. But a high priestess at the time decided against it, telling the people that this woman, and her incoming child, were special. Given the gift of life from the Goddess herself.
At exactly midnight, during the fullest moon of the year, the child was born. A small little boy with dark brow hair, and the most devilish red eyes anyone had ever seen. Again the boy had been called cursed, but the high priestesses took him into their care. His mother had died in childbirth, seemingly giving her life force to her child.
The boy was raised in the Inner Sanctum in the Temple itself, by the High Priestesses. He was kept safely away from everyone else, never really stepping outside of his room. That was, until he was 5 years old.
The night of his 5th birthday, he was prepared. Bathed in a scented, creamy looking water. Scrubbed and washed. Once he was clean, he was dried, and put into the purest of white linens. He almost seemed to glow as he entered the ritual room. He was rather frightened, but the High Priestess whispered to him not to worry, that it was just something they had to do with every new child. A sort of initiation.
He was lead to an altar of sorts, told to lay upon the cold stone. He didn't want to stay there, but once again he was reassured that everything would be alright. After all, this had never worked on any of the children chosen before him.
As the moon rose in the sky, light began to filter in through the small window, moving towards the altar. Priests began chanting, praying, beginning the ritual. Closer and closer it crept, and soon, it was time.
The moonlight hit his skin, and for the first time in centuries, something seemed to stir amongst the People. He began to glow, slowly floating into the air. Markings began to appear on his flesh, burning magically into him. He screamed. I could only imagine the agony of that poor boy as Lenoria's magic took ahold of him. Candles blew out, glass had shattered, cracks began to appear in the pillars and on the altar.
But just as soon as it had started, it ended. He dropped from the air back onto the altar, magic still pooling in the air around him. Beneath him the altar cracked even further, almost crumbling into pieces. It is said that everyone that had been in the ritual room that night was sticken blind.
He was moved, unconscious into a private chamber. The boy continued to stay in a sort of stasis. A deep sort of meditation. What had felt like mere hours to him, was years outside. Priestesses came and went, and ten years had passes in the blink of an eye. They began to believe that the boy would never awaken. But he did.
Once he awoke, he was terribly confused. Everyone he had known was dead and gone. Apparently that night had drained them of their life forces, causing them to age rapidly. He was taken from the Inner Sanctum into a library, and given all sorts of books about their history. As he read, he swore that he could hear a voice in his head, telling him what was true and what was utter lies. After a time, he was convinced it had been Lenoria herself.
Once he came of age at 16, he was allowed outside of the temple grounds and into the main compound. He was terribly unfond of still being stuck inside of walls. Even if he was still allowed to see the sunlight and feel the breeze. It still seemed, wrong.
As he was exploring, he found a weak spot in the walls. It didn't take him long to escape his responsibilities.
The ocean became his favorite place. Not too far from the walls, and filled with all sorts of new mysteries, things he needed to discover.
Until he met the silver haired boy. Not too much older than himself. They became quick friends. And for weeks, it went on, him sneaking out every day and meeting him at the docks. The silver haired boy talked with him, taught him things about life on the streets.
But one day, when he went to leave through the crack in the wall, he couldn't. It had been blocked up. Guards had noticed him sneaking out. And his freedom privileges were revoked. He was condemned to his room, for the rest of his life, only allowed out for rituals to honor Lenoria. And one was approaching. At least he was allowed to pick the place to perform the ritual. The ocean just seemed. Fitting.
The day of the ritual, he was escorted outside of the walls, brought to his favorite place, the tidepools. He could see Terra in the distance, just beyond the docks. He could feel the Walls behind him, looming. But at least he was free for the moment.
He began the ritual, collecting magic as much as he could, letting it swirl around him, water began to slowly be picked up in the magic, tiny sea creatures swarmed to him. Starfish, anemones , small silver fish, snails. And just as he was about to free it all back into the earth so that his people would have a bountiful year, he felt a sharp, horrid pain pierce through his chest.
He would hear the guards behind him screaming for him. But he was gone before he even hit the water, the last image he saw, was his friend, the silver haired boy, being dragged towards the Walls by very angry guards.
We have been looking for him ever since. The Child of Lenoria. He dropped off of our radar, but his body had never been recovered. Some say Lenoria claimed him, took him with her wherever she was. But that is simply not a possibility. I have spoken with Lenoria since, and she is just as clueless as the rest of us. It is our mission to find this boy. This Child, and bring him aboard our ship. To guide him home. But for now, the only thing we can do is keep the Bringer with us, and hope, that someday, fate will bring them together again...
